Ken,
I acquired a copy of the Hanafuda book mentioned when I lived in England. The name of the book is "Hanafuda The Flower Card Game". Nichibo Shuppan-Sha is not a person, but is the name of the publisher of the book. The title page says it was compiled by Japan Publications, Inc. in 1970. Its ISBN is 0-87040-430-X and it was distributed by JP Trading, Inc., 300 Industrial Way, Brisbane, Calif. 94005 and in Japan (same company) at PO Box 5030, Tokyo International, Tokyo 101-31 Japan.
My printing was the fifth and occurred in November 1982. I acquired it in 1994 or 1995 at Village Games in Camden Town, London in a marketplace at the Camden Lock.
Hope this helps.

Subject: Out of print Hanafuda book
I do actually have a copy of the out of print Hanafuda book. It was printed by a company called Japan Press. The place I got mine was the REALLY amazing bookstore in Portland Oregon called Powell's. (The store is the size of a city block. Don't take Jocelyn-you'll never get out alive.)
They had about a dozen copies, but it was 2 years ago that I was there.

Subject: hanafuda cards
I have a pack of hanafuda cards I bought in a small Japanese grocery in Central Square in Boston, Massachusetts. I believe the deck was manufactured by Nintendo.
The Nintendo website (Japanese, not the US site) has a page with these cards (and a pack of Kabu cards, but that's another story) but the page is in Japanese. If you got a translator I bet you could order from the site. I just look at the pictures.

The book is called "Hanafuda: the Flower Card Game." There are several games in the book. It's publisher is Nippon Press. I think I got it from the library, interlibrary loan. I think it came from the Springfield, Massachusetts public library.
I know you know about Go Stop games because I first heard about it on the Game Cabinet but, just to be complete, they sell Hanafuda decks, too.
